Novartis sponsors the patient pillar of the newly established National Institute of Preventative Cardiology
Novartis Ireland is proud to sponsor the patient pillar of the National Institute of Preventative Cardiology (NIPC). The NIPC was established by the Croí Cardiac Foundation and is an affiliate of the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). The NIPC aims to address priority health needs by driving cardiovascular research in disease prevention and rehabilitation in addition to engaging with policy makers and health practitioners to strive for excellence in preventive healthcare.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the single most common cause of death and disability in Ireland, resulting in approximately 10 000 deaths per year. 13% of premature deaths (under age 65) are from CVD. Speaking at the announcement, Fiona Cullinan, Head of the Cardiology Franchise at Novartis Ireland, said, “Novartis are delighted to be supporting this initiative. The work of the Institute will play a vital role in raising the standards of preventive healthcare in Ireland, specifically in the area of cardiovascular disease”.
Croí is a not for profit foundation established in 1985 dedicated to fighting heart disease. The Croí Heart Centre opened in 2012, a unique purpose built wellness centre which is the first of its kind in Ireland. It is visited by over 16 000 people each year. It provides a range of evidence based programmes and interventions delivered by a specialist health team. Speaking about the partnership between NIPC and Novartis, Neil Johnson, CEO Croí, commented, “The future work of the NIPC is set to make a significant contribution to the emerging challenges of heart disease, in particular heart failure, and we look forward to working with Novartis to achieve this shared goal.”
